Little things mean a lot

Silly? Perhaps. Illogical? Definitely. Today I was feeling overwhelmed by the amount of work I have to do and how little time I have to do it in. And a ton of little things were adding to the stress--jackets hanging on the railing, dishes in the sink, no extra rolls of toilet paper in the bathroom--you know, stupid little things. So my husband, the smartest man on earth (at least today), stood beside me and together we took care of the those silly little things. One little thing after another. Straightened a book shelf, got rid of outgrown toys, put newspapers into the recycle bin, replaced the filter on the refrigerator, and so on ad nauseum. And it worked. I feel unburdened now, as if I can face the big tasks with energy and enthusiasm.

And then I got to thinking that even the big tasks require the little things. One little thing after another. For example, on my list of big tasks this weekend is writing the first chapter of the new series (assuming it will turn into a series because someone will buy it). The first little task--making a new folder for it on the computer. Second, opening word; third starting a new doc for chapter one. Formatting, etc., follow and pretty soon I have a paragraph, then a page finished. Still have 399 to go, but it doesn't feel quite so daunting any more.

One step at a time. One step at a time.

P.S. Finished my first pass page proofs for AS YOU WISH this month. I can't wait to see the cover and get ARC's. April will be here before I'm ready. Hope you're getting as excited as I am.

Books I'm reading now:
Running Hot by Jayne Ann Krentz
Sword of Darkness by Kinley MacGregor

  1. Gah! *squee* I can't wait for As You Wish, I feel like a fan girl getting a wave from Robbert Patinson { is that how his last name is spelled? } just hearing the words cover and ARC in the same sentence because it means it will be here soon. Yes. Well, not soon enough but closer!! Congrats on getting the first pass page proofs finished. *high five on that*

Tell your hubby I say hi.

Also I agree little things mean alot. I have been stressed with trying to catch up on reviews, managing giveaways, trying to squeeze in some writing time, pleasing everyone and all that jazz that it was really starting to depress me how messy my bedroom was. lol. My little sanctuary, the place for me to destress, was just as overun as everything else in my life. So last night I tackled the two spots that were just irritating me the most, my bookshelf, lol, and my "headboard" { really just a small white desk I didn't used squished between the head of my bed and the wall }. It's amazing what straightening up those two spots did. Annnnd with all my books in order I realized I ain't really that far behind on most of my reviews. Whoo hoo.

  3. Had room with hole in the ceiling and dire need of paint job for 3 years. I'm pretty sure you saw it. My life is a disaster sometimes. Had the room painted this week and I feel 50lbs lighter. Little things do mean a lot. It means every day for the past 3 years I've thought about how much I need to fix that room. Baby steps. Glad you did "ton of little things" today.

Can't wait to see the cover of "As You Wish." You are my inspiration!

  4. Oh my goodness yes on the little things! They swamp you quicker than Nora can turn out another book if you're not careful!

And I'm so very happy to hear about another series in the works! Of course, I've only read your awesome, spectacular, amazing WISH LIST, but I know everything else you pen is going to be as fabulous!!!
